Wellness 101: Beyond diets, treadmills + Prozac

part of the BODYWORK SERIES presented by Replenishing Soul (lori metroka + dorothy lizak)

Saturday, June 14th, 11:30am - 3:30pm

Come learn the 6 key principles to nutrition, exercise and emotional stress in this 1-day lecture, where eastern philosophy meets western medicine.

In this workshop, we discuss how nutrition, exercise, and stress COMBINED impact our health and wellness. Did you know that too much exercise can actually be harmful to you and prevent you from losing weight, or that not eating enough can actually make you gain weight? Participants will leave this workshop with a full understanding of what it truly means to be well and will be given the tools they need to make it happen...IN A MANAGEABLE WAY! We are also excited to have two guest speakers who will teach simple yoga and relaxation techniques that anyone can do, anytime.

After applying these principles in our own lives, we have seen so much improvement in our health and well-being and are excited to share our knowledge with all of you. This includes a decrease in body fat, increased muscle tone and posture, increased energy and mood, improved digestion, better sleep, elimination of menstrual cramps, improved self-image, and improved relationships with others (to name a few!).

Lori Metroka is Holistic Lifestyle Coach, Physical Therapist and Personal Trainer. She has worked in a variety of settings from Rehabilitation hospitals to Nursing homes and has helped individuals rehabilitate from life altering diseases. After overcoming her own illness Lori now dedicates her practice to educating individuals on prevention and living a healthy lifestyle.

Dorothy Lizak is a certified Nutrition + Lifestyle Coach and Strength + Conditioning Specialist with a background in medical Speech Pathology. After working in a hospital setting for 10 years and seeing the devastating effects of poor nutrition, stress, and an inactive lifestyle, she now devotes her time to teach the meaning of wellness and how anyone can make simple changes to lead a healthier life.

Here's our newest offering from a talented and eager pair of health and wellness teachers. Please support us in welcoming them to StretchWorks by coming and telling everyone you know who is interested in wellness.

Sacred Skin Yoga
with Anne Caswell

every 3rd Sunday of the month, Noon - 1:30pm

Our body is the reflection of our soul - our true selves - and as such it is always beautiful and divine.

Your skin surrounds and protects you and it is also where our inner self connects to the outer world. Naked, we are both strong and vulnerable.

Without clothing, you will find that your practice becomes deeper and more intensely focused with all your senses fully engaged. Being naked with others brings a strong sense of unity with our fellow human beings, along with acceptance, compassion, and reverence for our own bodies.

The structure will be open practice in silence. Practitioners of other forms of meditative movement welcome.

$9

No late-comers admitted. Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of class.

about our workshops

They are appropriate for all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
The majority of our workhsops are helpful and appropriate for most anyone. The usual age range is from ten years old to seventy years young. Some participants are not very fit and so come to start getting back into shape again, while others are serious athletes who want to increase strength and flexibility.

Most people have no prior training or experience. Yet yoga, pilates and strength trainers often come to expand their knowledge base.

If a workshop requires previous experience or expertise, it will be clearly stated in the description.

They don't require you to own any fancy equipment.
Though we do recommend that you bring a yoga mat and yoga strap (available at stores like Target or Whole Foods) and a big towel, if you don't have these we will provide them for you. And you can buy any of these from us after the workshop so you can start stretching right away at home.

They include lots of physical activity, but you work at your own pace.
All of our workshops include lots of physical student participation. That's the best way to really learn a physical concept like stretching. So expect to get a good workout and maybe even sweat. However, the instructors will work with you and encourage you to work at your own comfortable pace.

During a typical workshop, some people take breaks every five minutes while others are sweating up a storm and hardly ever stop. People are that different.

We recommend wearing comfortable workout clothing.
Since you will be doing physical exercise, wear or bring appropriate clothing. You can change on site. Shorts and a tee shirt are fine, but some people wear jogging suits or tights. We recommend many layers of clothing, like a tee shirt under long sleeves, since the room may start out cold but then warm up during the workshop. You can be in socks or bare feet.

There are handouts to take home with you and practice.
Our goal is that you experience an immediate and obviouse increase in flexbility during the workshop. But we also want you to keep stretching once you get home so that you continue to increase your flexibility. To make this easy, we send you home with handouts of all the concepts that were covered in the workshop.

We provide water and light snacks to keep you going.
We think that everyone should drink lots of quality water when working out. So we provide you with our favorite spring water along with organic snack foods. Quality foods create quality bodies.

We prefer that you arrive early so we can begin on time.
We ask that you arrive about a half-hour earlier than the workhop start time. That will allow you to register, receive handouts and equipment, settle into your place, and use the bathrooms before we start.

Expect to have fun and feel really relaxed at the end.
Although we think that stretching is serious business, joy is the ultimate purpose of life. And so we stress fun and enjoyment in all of our workshops. We encourage you to really apply yourself during the workshop and work to the best of your ability, but we also do our best to make it a fun and joyful experience. And we always end with a guided sensory relaxation, so that you feel relaxed and loose when you leave.
